published:2025-11-28

On July 29, 2025, Mr. Wan Shilin, Party Secretary and Executive Deputy Director of the Natural History Museum of China (NHMC) and Dr. Qiao Gexia, Director of the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), signed the strategic cooperation agreement between the two entities at the Institute. Dr. Zhang Jinshuo, Director of the National Zoological Museum of China (NZMC), also attended the meeting.

Dr. Qiao Gexia welcomed the delegation from the NHMC. She noted that the Institute of Zoology and the NHMC have long-standing ties and close cooperation. At its current stage of development, the Institute should focus not only on conducting high-quality research but also on effectively presenting its scientific achievements to advance science communication and public engagement. To promote the development of the NHMC, both parties will leverage their leading roles in their respective fields across China to address public needs and common challenges, jointly proposing recommendations and measures; through resource sharing and collaborative innovation, they will promote the transformation of scientific findings and the enhancement of scientific education, jointly advancing research in the field of natural sciences and science communication, contributing to the protection of natural heritage and the improvement of public scientific literacy.

Mr. Wan Shilin stated that the development of the NHMC has been inseparable from the CAS, and the renaming to “the Natural History Museum of China” has received strong support from experts at the Institute of Zoology. The Institute of Zoology holds an eminent position in zoological research both domestically and internationally, with its extensive expertise in specimen preservation, talent training, and science popularization. He hoped that in the future, the Institute of Zoology will continue to support the NHMC in areas such as field researches and specimen collection, cooperation in specimen resource sharing, joint graduate training, and intellectual support for the construction of NHMCs new museum. He's happy that both sides will fully leverage their respective resource advantages, professional capabilities, and experience to jointly promote scientific research, enhance popular science education, and facilitate the dissemination and popularization of natural science knowledge.
