BMNH’s Treasured Juramaia Fossil Displayed at National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo, Japan

The Exhibition Leaps in Evolution was inaugurated at the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo, Japan on July 6th, 2015. An important specimen from BMNH, the Juramaia sinensis, is on display as part of the exhibition which will be closed on October 4th, 2015.

The Exhibition, Leaps in Evolution, curated by the NHK, is the largest ever held in Japan showcasing milestone events in evolutionary history. The exhibition includes significant fossil specimens from Canada, China and many other countries. Juramaia sinensis gen. et sp. nov., meaning‘the Jurassic Mother from China’, represents the fossil records of the most ancient Eutherian (placental).
