Sustainable Development Counts on the Support of Science and Technology - The Meaning of Ecological Footprint

published:2011-04-14

Ecological Footprint is an important measure to quantitatively study and analyze regional sustainable development. Through longitudinal comprehensive and comparative analyses on the changes of a region’s ecological footprint, the relationship between ecology and human’s present and future situations could be properly described, and the pressure on natural resources and ecological environment in regions developed by human beings could be measured. Though it sounds elusive, ecological footprint is a great issue directly relevant to China’s future harmonious development in the macro fields.

Dr. Ni Yongming, associate researcher of Beijing Museum of Natural History, gave a public lecture onChina’s Ecological Footprint on April 13 with typical cases, pointing out the ecological hazards some regions are exposed to in the economic development.
